What is dermabrasion?

If you’ve had acne and those left scars or your skin has been damaged by sun, there is a procedure which can help remove the damaged part of your skin and leave you with smoother and clearer skin.

The procedure is called demabrasion, and it involves scraping off your skin’s top layer to remove the damaged layer. The length and number of times the procedure has to be done depends on the patient’s condition. Usually it takes more than one session for most patients to achieve the desired result.

The recovery time also depends on how many times the patient had to undergo dermabrasion. The procedure usually causes redness of the skin, the feeling that it’s slightly sunburned, so it’s advisable to avoid exposure to the sun for weeks or until when your surgeon advises you.

Dermabrasion is a great way to achieve the clear, smooth skin you once had if you had been scarred in the face or has a few wrinkles. However, it should be understood that dermabrasion doesn’t treat skin defects, burn marks, moles or birth marks.
